August was a month filled with exhilarating sports action, and our chosen editorial sports photo perfectly encapsulates the intensity. Captured by Michael Potts for IMAGO, this image features Isack Hadjar, racing for the Racing Bulls team during the 2025 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix at the Circuit Zandvoort in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Best Editorial News Photo of August

August saw significant global events, and IMAGO’s photographers were on the ground, documenting critical moments. Our selection for the best editorial news photo of the month is an image from Khan Yunis, Gaza, captured by IMAGO partner photographer Doaa Albaz from Anadolu Agency.

The photograph, taken on August 27, 2025, depicts the personal effects including a camera, press vest, helmet, and mobile phone of Mariam Abu Dagga. Mariam was one of five journalists killed in an Israeli attack on Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis on August 25. Mariam Abu Dagga was a journalist for various media organizations, including Independent Arabia and AP, and had remained in Gaza to report on events.
