Daily Life in Gaza: A Photo Essay by Majdi Fathi

Palestinian photojournalist Majdi Fathi has been documenting the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict in 2023. But his work stretches back much further.
Fathi has been working as a photojournalist for more than 15 years and is currently collaborating with IMAGO’s partner, NurPhoto. His long-term visual documentation, Daily Life in Gaza, has captured everyday life in the region for years, both before and during the current war. The series shows a layered, ongoing visual narrative of how civilians and ordinary people live through a long-term conflict.
This photo essay is part of his long-term documentation of Gaza’s daily life in 2025, photographed during the ongoing war. From children searching for food to families burying their loved ones, from the small street markets that still operate despite shortages to moments of private rest and small celebrations, his photographs provide a wide-angle view of life in Gaza. Through this range, Fathi presents his homeland not only as a place of conflict but also as a place where life, in all its complexity, continues.
What makes Fathi’s coverage powerful is how close it feels to the lives he photographs. As someone directly affected by the conflict, displaced along with his family and exposed to the same dangers as those in his frames, he lives what he documents.
Daily Life in Gaza by Majdi Fathi is a strong visual archive of civilian life and experience, captured from the ground, not from a distance but from within the story itself.
