Snow fell across Europe with Storm Darcy hitting The Netherlands as the worst weather in a decade halted transport across the country. Northern Germany also has been affected with plummeting temperatures as lows are reported to fall to -11 degrees this week. Whilst the north is set for freezing conditions and braces for further snow, the South are enjoying much milder weather in a strange turn.

One week after the military coup began in Myanmar, protests grew across the country. Mostly peaceful, demonstrations swelled as massive crowds marched in towns and cities in the largest show of popular defiance against the removal of the democratically elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi. For three days in a row, protesters turned out to show solidarity against the army coup with water cannons deployed to control crowds at some of the larger cities.

This Weekend’s big sporting news was from the Super Bowl. On Sunday, Tampa Bay defeated the Chief’s to take the 2021 title with an outstanding score of 31-9. In helping his team to victory, Tom Brady clinched a magnificent and unprecedented seventh Super Bowl title. The Rugby Nations also took place this Sunday, with Wales winning in their game against Ireland and a huge win also for France, winning 50 to 10 against Italy’s team on Saturday. In tennis, Germany’s Alexander Zverev beat his US opponent in his first match at the 2021 Australian Open, smashing his racquet on the floor in celebration.
