In welcoming Britain's new King Charles III, IMAGO looks back on some archives throughout his life as a prince while we say farewell to Queen Elizabeth II.

Welcoming King Charles III. IMAGO Archive.
Prince Charles was not one to follow tradition – known for his controversial marriage to Lady Diana, he was the first heir to the throne granted a divorce. He was also the first heir to attend university – Cambridge in 1967. He was a polo player, an established painter and cellist, once conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The first 20th century royal baby born at Buckingham Palace, the first who was not home-schooled, and now the third Monarch of England with the name Charles, the world has let go of Queen Elizabeth II’s historic reign and welcomes a new king. IMAGO’s archives look back at some unique moments and timestamps that define his legacy.
