The photo of the month in the News category was captured by Sandro Pereira From Fotoarena. The photograph depicts the dire situation of the Rio Negro, a key tributary of the Amazon River. The river has faced its most severe drought in over a century. Since October 2023, the river’s water levels in Manaus have hit historic lows, the lowest since records began in 1902. This unprecedented drought has dramatically impacted the Amazonas state in Brazil, leading to a state-wide emergency declaration. The significance of this event lies in its massive impact on transportation, access to communities, and the overall ecosystem of the Amazon basin.
The Best Sports Photo of the Month
Maxim Thoré took our sports photo of the month after the final whistle of the NHL Global Series game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Ottawa Senators in Stockholm, Sweden.
